I Used to Love Going to Music Festivals, Now I would Rather Not
Maybe I’m just getting lazy as I get older.
In my hometown of Louisville, we had two huge music festivals in the past two weeks. The first was Bourbon & Beyond, which features an eclectic array of significant acts and some lesser-known artists. Bruno Mars headlined Sunday night.
This weekend was the Louder Than Life festival. It featured acts such as Foo Fighters, Tool, Green Day, and Pantera. As a lifelong rock fan, a four-day festival sounds like something I would be into. And Foo Fighters are still on my bucket list of acts to see. So why didn’t I grab some tickets and head out with some of my friends to enjoy what undoubtedly was a great weekend of music?
The truth is, I am just getting lazy and grumpier as I get older. Years ago, a local radio station hosted an all-day music festival that attracted national and local acts. I dutifully went yearly and rocked out with my friends and hundreds of other fans. They were great times that usually included discovering some new band I had never heard of.
Now, I would rather do anything else than be in a field in the heat with many people getting stoned and/or drunk all day. I can pick out a dozen other acts when I look at the lineups, except for the headliners. Spending hundreds of dollars to hang out all day to…
