I Binge-Watched the new Fallout Series

And Amazon nailed it.

I finally sat down this weekend and watched the new Amazon Prime series based on the popular Fallout game. With only eight episodes, it can easily be enjoyed in a single sitting. I sat down early Friday evening, planning on watching a couple of episodes and finishing them the next day at about 2 a.m. Friday night, I had finished the whole program.

The show creators did everything right and still allowed for some more growth and further stories in the future. A critical element of the games is the blend of bleak, post-apocalyptic atmosphere with dark/sarcastic humor.

Let me give you a brief overview for those unfamiliar with the Fallout games. The game’s timeline diverges from our own after WWII. Cathode ray tubes and atomic physics are the primary technology sources (also known as “at"mpunk”)."Much of the game’s aesthetic borrows from 1950s sci-fi ideas of what the future would look like. Then, fast forward to 2077, when China dropped atomic bombs on the United States, igniting World War III. Some people can make it to underground Vaults with the plan to one day return to the surface to rebuild society.

About 200 years later, the United States is still a radioactive wasteland, and survivors who did not make it to the vaults live a hard existence. Different factions, such as the…
